The worlds longest blog title. Or the longest song quote. You decide.
I am exhausted. Physically and mentally.
The short version:
On February 8 we went to OM as usual. When we got home we started to get ready to paint the house, and the phone rang. It was Marty's dad. Marty's grandma had died that afternoon. Within minutes the boys were packing and Marty and I left to pick up furniture we had bought (they would resell it if we didn't pick it up in three days.)
Marty went to work to do a few things he needed to do before we left, so I went to get the oil changed. Three tires, the caution that we needed to replace the back springs NOW (one was completely broken in half) and $360 later, we are on our way to Ohio. The next morning Marty went to the funeral home with his dad, aunts and uncles and I went to get the springs replaced. (Another $135)
We ended up staying in Ohio until The 13th, so we got to spend a lot of time with the part of the family the boys don't get to see that often.
Marty started his vacation on the 16th, so we painted a few rooms and then headed back to Ohio for my nieces 1st birthday.
While we were in Ohio this time my brother and SIL took the 18th off work, so we went to my dad's grave (something I haven't done since Christian was a baby) and spent a nice day in Amish country.
My nieces birthday was nice. She had a great time and the boys got to play basketball. LOL
When we got home we went into full OM mode. Last week my Div. 1 team had 2 meetings and my Div. 3 team had 3 meetings and a dress rehearsal.
They loved the dress rehearsal, and were a big hit! We had a hard time leaving because so many people would come up to them and tell them how great/funny/silly/entertaining they were. When I got home I got an email saying the people who had coordinated it were talking about how good they were. Like I told Marie, I am sure they heaped praise on everyone, but they ATE IT UP!!
Now it turns out that not only are we *almost* guaranteed a spot at State Finals but we have a decent shot at World Finals. In Boulder. $6,000 away from Detroit. Oh, and we would have a month to raise that money.
Tonight I called one of the coordinators, who has had her team make it to worlds three times. She basically said that we don't have a hope in hell of making it that far, so don't stress over it. Before anyone calls her a big meanie, let me explain. We are going to State finals against *so far* three other teams, and only two teams go on to WF. (One region hasn't posted their schedule, so there could be two more teams.) She knows one of the teams and they are good. Really good. (They took 8th place at WF last year, out of something like 45-50 teams.) She said that while we were good (especially for a first year team) we aren't good enough to make it that far. At least not unless there is some freak accident and two of the other teams don't show up. So keep your fingers crossed that it snows really badly that weekend in April, so they can't make it. (Hey, it is Michigan, so it is entirely within the realm of possibility.)
Tomorrow is (you guess it!) OM day. Today was supposed to be, but I called Cindy to tell her we would be late because I have a bad cold and my brain in swimming snot and she said I should take a nap. For that I will be forever grateful.
Hummm... the short version got long. I am going to take more than my recommended dose of cold medicine and head to bed.
